The Best Baby Monitor for Twins

Sharing is caring!

Double the baby means you have to think a little differently about your baby registry, and that includes finding the right baby monitor. But not to worry: finding the best baby monitor for twins does not have to be a daunting task!

When you’re preparing for twins, there are certain baby items that are essential. Is a baby monitor for twins one of them? Yes! Especially if you have a big house, the nursery is on another floor, or you have another little one to keep track of.

With two babies to keep your eye on, having a reliable baby monitor is a huge weight off your shoulders.

But you don’t need to break the bank to get a good one. I’ve got my top picks for the best baby monitor for twins plus some other good choices that fall into different price ranges, some of which are audio/video and others that are just audio.

This list of the best baby monitors are either ones we have used or that come highly recommended from other twin moms!

Video Monitor vs Audio Monitor

There are mainly two types of baby monitors on the market: video monitors and audio monitors. Which one you choose completely depends on you and what you’re comfortable with.

Many parents prefer the security and peace of mind that comes with having live video. However, video monitors do tend to run a higher price tag, though there are some more affordable options available (which you’ll learn more about down below).

Audio monitors, on the other hand, are incredibly affordable but obviously only offer sound. For some twin parents, this might be enough. I highly recommend having an audio monitor as a backup or if you’re outside working and need to be able to hear even if you can’t see–that’s what we did and it worked great!

Essential Features of a Baby Monitor for Twins

There are plenty of fancy-shmancy models out there with tons of neat options, but there are only a few key features that you actually need in a good baby monitor:

For any monitor:

  • long range (most good ones go to about 1,000 feet)
  • long battery life (8 hours or more)
  • high-sensitivity microphone

For video monitors:

  • clear view of baby’s room
  • dual cameras OR a rotating camera
  • infrared night vision

That’s it! The rest you can take or leave depending on what you want and what your budget is. Some of these recommendations have more features than others but they all at least have these!

Best Split Screen Baby Monitor

Having a split-screen monitor is not crucial, but it means that you can see both babies at the same time. This is especially helpful if you have multiple little ones (3 under 3, for example!) that you need to keep an eye on.

If you want to go the split screen baby monitor route, this is my top pick:

Babysense Video Baby Monitor 5’’ HD with Camera and Audio

best baby monitor for twins

The benefits of smart baby monitors like this one are:

  • Of course, video and audio
  • Two wide-angle lens camera units, one for each crib or room
  • Large screen size so you have a clear view with high-quality images
  • Two-way communication

Babysense 4.3’’ Split Screen Monitor

best baby monitor for twins

For a slightly cheaper version of the 5’’ split screen monitor, this has all the same features as the 5’’ HD camera, just with a smaller screen.

Babysense Video Baby Monitor

best baby monitor for twins

If you’re sold on Babysense but want an even more budget-friendly option, this model doesn’t have a split screen but still comes with two camera units that you can switch between.

Benefits of this baby monitor:

  • Budget-friendly
  • Portable
  • You can add up to 4 cameras, just in case you want extra camera units in different rooms!

Foscam Home Security WiFi Camera

best baby monitor for twins

If you don’t like carrying around a bulky parent unit, we’ve used this Foscam security camera as a baby monitor for twins in the past and it works great!

Benefits of the Foscam:

  • Connects to an app on your phone with internet connection
  • Rotates so you can see both cribs without additional cameras
  • Very affordable
  • You can use it as a home security system afterwards!

JLB7tech 5’’ Split Screen Video Monitor

Another audio/video monitor with great reviews is the JLB7tech. It is slightly cheaper than the Babysense model; the main differences are that it has a shorter battery life and only 2x digital zoom.

But aside from that, you can find many of the same features: two-way communication, infrared night vision, and separate baby monitors for each twin’s crib or for separate rooms.

VTech VM321-2 Safe & Sound Video Baby Monitor

best baby monitor for twins

The VTech VM321-2 is another trusted brand and has some useful features that not every baby monitor comes with, such as:

  • Background noise eliminator
  • Wall-mountable
  • 6-level noise indicator on the baby units
  • Video, sound, and temperature monitoring

Best Sound Only Baby Monitors (audio?)

You might not want or need a video monitor, and that’s totally fine! We only used an audio monitor with our first baby. We did end getting a video monitor for twins because I thought it would be helpful to see what they were doing before they woke each other up!

The most important thing is to be able to hear when the little angels start to stir–anything else you may want in a baby monitor will depend on your budget and comfort level.

It’s also a good idea to have an audio monitor as a back-up or in case you’re outside or working on something that prevents you from monitoring a screen.

VTech DM221 Audio Baby Monitor

best baby monitor for twins

This is my top pick and the one that we used when with our first baby and when the twins were little. It’s got a great battery life and is good for outside or around the house. If you need the basics, you can’t go wrong with this one!

We actually loved it so much that we repurchased it for our 4th baby (we donated our first one when we moved).

VTech Upgraded Audio Baby Monitor

Another great pick, especially if you like the VTech brand but want to go for a slightly newer model! This one’s also really budget-friendly and has many of the same features as a more expensive version!

The Best Baby Monitor for Twins: Final Thoughts

It really is a good idea to invest in a good baby monitor, and finding one for twins is not difficult at all! (Which is a relief because that’s not always the case with baby gear!) Set your budget, pick your features, and enjoy the comfort and security that comes with a little bit of modern tech!
